How to Prepare Your Mineral Swim™ Magnesium Pool for Summer

01 November, 2026

As the weather warms up across Australia, it is time to prepare your swimming pool for longer days, backyard gatherings and refreshing summer swims. Getting your pool ready early helps maintain water quality, supports efficient equipment performance and reduces unexpected maintenance during peak swimming season.

If you own a Mineral Swim™ magnesium pool, spring is the ideal time to check your water chemistry, inspect your purification system and give your pool a thorough clean.

Mineral Swim™ combines 100% natural Dead Sea minerals with ozone-to-oxygen purification technology and a chlorinator to help maintain clear, softer-feeling pool water. Here is how to prepare your mineral pool for summer.

1. Test and Balance Your Pool Water

Warmer temperatures, rainfall, evaporation and increased swimming activity can affect pool water quality. Before summer begins, test your water and check that its chemistry and mineral concentration are within the recommended ranges.

Pay attention to:

  • pH: Mineral Swim™ recommends 7.0 to 7.2 for fibreglass pools and 7.2 to 7.6 for concrete pools.

  • Total alkalinity: Aim for 80 to 120 parts per million (ppm), following Mineral Swim™ guidance.

  • Free chlorine: Maintain the recommended level for your pool and sanitation system.

  • Mineral concentration: Check that your pool's mineral levels meet the requirements for your system.

Mineral Swim™ recommends a total dissolved solids (TDS) range of 3,500 to 4,500 ppm. Remember that TDS measures various dissolved substances, not magnesium alone.

Regular testing helps identify imbalances before heavy summer use begins. If you are unsure about your readings, consult your local Elite Dealer.

For additional guidance, refer to the Mineral Swim™ summer maintenance guide and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's pool water testing advice.

2. Inspect Your Mineral Swim™ Purification System

A reliable purification system is essential for maintaining clear, hygienic water throughout summer. Before increasing pool usage, check that your pump, filter, chlorinator and ozone purification equipment are operating correctly.

As part of your seasonal maintenance:

  • Inspect accessible equipment and connections for leaks or damage.

  • Clean the pump and skimmer baskets.

  • Check your filter and follow the manufacturer's cleaning or backwashing instructions.

  • Arrange professional servicing from your Elite Dealer if you notice unusual noises, warning indicators or persistent water-quality problems.

Mineral Swim™ combines minerals with ozone purification and chlorination. Although ozone supports the purification process, appropriate residual disinfection remains important for protecting swimmers.

3. Clean the Pool Floor, Walls and Waterline

Leaves, dust, sunscreen and other debris can accumulate even when a pool is not used frequently. A thorough clean before summer helps keep your magnesium swimming pool looking inviting and reduces the debris entering your filtration system.

Skim floating debris, brush the walls and waterline, vacuum the floor and empty the skimmer baskets. Check for algae, slippery surfaces or cloudy water, and address any issues promptly.

A Maytronics Dolphin robotic pool cleaner can simplify regular maintenance by collecting dirt and debris from the floor and, depending on the model, the walls and waterline. This is particularly useful during summer, when increased swimming activity can mean more frequent cleaning.

4. Check Mineral Levels Before Adding More Magnesium for Pools

Before adding minerals, test your water to determine whether an adjustment is necessary. Minerals generally remain in the pool as water evaporates, potentially increasing their concentration. Adding fresh water, on the other hand, can dilute mineral levels.

Make sure to get professional advice from your local Elite Dealer.

Follow these steps:

  1. Test the water and review the results.

  2. Check the recommended mineral concentration for your Mineral Swim™ system.

  3. Add minerals only if needed and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Avoid adding magnesium for pools simply because summer is approaching. Incorrect concentrations can affect water balance and contribute to scaling or other water-quality problems. If you are converting a conventional pool into a magnesium swimming pool, consult an authorised Mineral Swim™ dealer about the appropriate system and mineral requirements.

5. Maintain Water Levels and Prepare for Summer Weather

Hot weather and increased swimming can cause water levels to drop. Keep the water at the appropriate level for your pool's skimmer and pump, and top it up when necessary.

After adding a significant amount of fresh water, retest the chemistry if needed, as this can affect pH, alkalinity and mineral concentration.

Summer storms can also introduce leaves, dirt and organic matter into your pool. Remove debris after storms, monitor disinfectant levels and ensure the filtration system is working properly. Encourage swimmers to shower before entering the pool to reduce the introduction of contaminants.

A pool cover can help reduce evaporation and debris when the pool is not in use, but it does not replace regular cleaning, testing or disinfection.

6. Schedule a Pre-Summer Pool Service

A professional inspection can help identify equipment issues before the busiest swimming months. A qualified pool technician can assess your pump, filter, chlorinator and purification system, test the water and advise whether mineral levels need adjustment.

Consider arranging a service if your pool has been unused for an extended period, the water remains cloudy or you notice persistent algae, scaling or unusual discolouration.

Addressing these problems early can help prevent disruptions to your summer swimming plans.

Consult your local Elite Dealer.

Enjoy a Summer of Softer, Clearer Pool Water

Preparing your Mineral Swim™ magnesium pool for summer does not need to be complicated. By balancing your water, maintaining your equipment, cleaning regularly, and monitoring mineral levels, you can help keep your pool in excellent condition throughout the warmer months.

A magnesium swimming pool still requires consistent care, but establishing a maintenance routine before summer can make pool ownership easier when swimming activity increases.

If you are considering upgrading your existing pool, Mineral Swim™ combines 100% natural Dead Sea minerals with ozone-to-oxygen purification technology for a different approach to pool water treatment.
